I love the blue jays that visit our backyard feeder. They sometimes leave feathers of deep stripes when they fly off.

Magnolia blossoms perfume the growing dark while moths find any bit of light. The Maryland Tricolor bat is the smallest native bat to the state, measuring about 3 inches. Super cute.

Only the snow remembers an encounter between a cardinal and a hawk.

Seeing a maneki neko (lucky cat) pop up in my favorite store, or on a dashboard, or on a nice tattoo always brings me a smile.

Inspired by a tiny ancient medieval shrine I found carved in a large rock in what used to be a quarry, deep in Parc Eugene Chanlon in Orsay, France.

The Southern Pygmy Shrew is the smallest mammal in Maryland. A tiny skull is warmed by a sunbeam on the forest floor.

Carnegie in the Strawberry bed, with squash leaves and blooming lavender.

Carnegie (who used to live in the Melon bed, get it?) is a clearance bin plastic skeleton now lives in the Strawberry and lavender bed in our front yard. We’ve had him there for years and decorate it for the holidays and seasons. I love it.
